TO GOD BE THE GLORY - GREAT THINGS HE HATH DONE!
It is hard to believe that the 2007 Appalachian Project is now history. Never has there been such a spirit of cooperation among God's people!
"And the Lord said, I will make the Valley of Troubles a door of hope." Hosea 2:15
Manchester, Kentucky is an excellent example of God's power and his marvelous grace. This is a community that experienced a transformation in which citizens took back their town for Jesus Christ. They were tired of corruption among officials and tired of drug dealers. They were tired of children literally dying on the streets due to drugs and alcohol.
From the first planning meeting it was evident that God would have us serve the deserving people of this area. Pastor Doug Abner, a nationally known minister, stood to his feet pledging support of the 66 pastors of the area. Representatives of all major agencies and government, including the Federal Correction Facility were present. Family Support workers were concerned regarding the growing number of families in need. They in fact had used their own money to meet the increasing needs of families at Christmas. The only request from the representatives was that Manchester and Clay County Kentucky be known as a community of transformation - THE CITY OF HOPE!
One thing was very apparent - God was in control. We became family - working hand in hand to meet the needs of those who were hurting.
Our first stop on our Christmas outreach was at the Clay County Health Department Neurology Clinic. Doctors and specialists come from Lexington once monthly in order to treat children diagnosed with moderate to severe neurological problems. If it were not for this service, families would be forced to travel great distances in order to get the needed medical care for their children. The staff allowed us to provide a Christmas party for the children and parents. Each child was given a Walmart Gift Card along with a beautiful afghan handmade by women back in South Carolina who used their God-given talents for the Lord. It was an experience we shall never forget. Thank God for the physicians who provide the medical care so desperately needed.
A physician in the Greenville area donated medical equipment and supplies which will be used at the Community Church Medical Clinic. The clinic was established to provide family practice medicine. The clinic has approximately 1500 who call the clinic their primary care provider. Approximately 50% of the working people in Clay County have no insurance. Not only were medical supplies given but office equipment which included computers, printers, a desk and even a magazine rack. This generous gift was truly an answer to prayer!
