One of the highlights of the project is purchasing groceries for the families! People looked in amazement as our mission team filled grocery carts to capacity with healthy, nutritous food items. It is our desire in each project to enhance the local economy. THANKS BE TO GOD for our viewers and supporters who made this possible!
If only you could have seen the faces of the children as we arrived at the homes. Excitement was in the air as our mission team brought in toys, gifts, clothing and other items that would make their Christmas complete. Faces that were once sad and filled with tears now were faces with smiles and eyes that glistened! In our family of 13, one of the little girls rushed into my arms and said, "but how can I give you a present?"
Melinda Eversole, who could only cry during our initial interview, now had a big smile on her face. She had written thank you notes to the team in which she expressed the sincere appreciation of her family. Melinda is the mother of Adam who is severely handicapped. I know in my heart that Adam somehow knew that something very special was happening in his home - but most of all - how very much God loves him.
Chaplain James Turner gave a beautiful bird, bird cage and food to the Henson family. We want to report that the bird has been named Sweetie and being well cared for and loved. Sweetie took the trip of his life as he rode up the mountain in a Penske truck with Lynn and Randy Rice.
Prior to departure we received word that Ellen White had been hospitalized due to a severe fall resulting in a broken hip. By the time we arrived Ellen was in a local nursing home facility. The management and staff allowed us to minister to all nuring home residents. Smiles were on the faces as beautiful handmade afghans were given. We talked of Jesus and his amazing love for us - regardless of our age or physical condition.
To sum up the visits with our special families, we must say, it is more blessed to give than receive. The sound of laughter as presents were opened, replaced the tears and feelings of hopelessness. THANK YOU for making this happen.
