Digital TV

Digital television (DTV) is a new broadcasting technology offering improved picture and sound quality as well as expanded programming choices. The Federal Communications Commission is requiring television stations to switch from its current method of analog broadcasting to the new digital broadcasting.

WGGS is excited about the launch of two new digital channels to compliment its existing programming schedule. Digital channel 16.2 will be called SIXTEEN TOO and will offer a schedule filled with classic movies and television series, lifestyle programming and much more. Some of the classic television series scheduled to air on SIXTEEN TOO include The Lucy Show, Dragnet, Love That Bob, Daniel Boone, The Lone Ranger, The Gabby Hayes Show, Annie Oakley, Groucho Marx's You Bet Your Life, just to name a few. And in upcoming weeks, SIXTEEN TOO will be making an announcement about even more favorite classics coming to the channel.

Digital channel 16.3 is HARMONY Gospel Music TV, a new 24-hour music channel celebrating all styles of gospel music. There will be classic music videos, music specials, new series never seen before in this area and so much more. There will be Gaither Homecoming, Babbie's House with Babbie Mason, the gospel bluegrass sounds of Down Home, and weekly series featuring Nancy Harmon, Laverne and Edith Tripp, Carroll Roberson, and Gary McSpadden. And just like with SIXTEEN TOO, there will be an announcement soon about even more great programming for gospel music lovers.

Viewers who have a digital television will have access to these new channels, as well as the current Channel 16 schedule (which is seen on digital channel 16.1). Any viewer still using an analog television will have the current Channel 16 schedule but will need to get a set-top converter box to convert the analog signal to digital in order to receive these new digital channels. When these new channels launch, SIXTEEN TOO and HARMONY will not be on the area cable or satellite systems. We encourage viewers interested in receiving these channels to contact their cable or satellite provider and request these channels.
